Wind speed database

Wind speed database
This page allows you to enter your post-code and get an estimate of the wind speed in your area. It is based on the Department of Energy and Climate Change database (link here), and can only be considered as an estimate; it is best to measure directly the wind speed, and preferably over a period of time. The wind speed will vary quite dramatically depending on the layout of the land around you, buildings and trees close to you and other factors. However, this page will at least give you some idea of expected wind speeds in your area.
Each value in the database is the estimated average for a 1 kilometre square at three heights above ground level; 10m, 25m and 45m. Note that this page is only of use to UK-based post codes.
Landranger grid
If the Postcode form failed to work, then you can provide us with your location based on the Landranger grid. Landranger grid is the system used by Ordnance Survey for their range of Landranger maps. The UK wind speed database works using Landranger grid reference. To find your grid reference you can use the following conversion tool, from Streetmap:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/GridConvert.html
Go to this page by clicking the link above, and enter your postcode; then click on the 'Post code' option. Click the 'Convert' button and you get a table of results. From the table, note the LR value and type it in the box below.
For example, our office postcode is BS35 4JJ. Typing this into the above converter returns:
LR - ST569847
and this is entered into the box below.
