Installation
The normal installation is a galvanized steel tower, wide at the base and tapering to the top. The wind turbine is mounted on top of the tower, the height being dependent on the size of the turbine, the wind conditions etc. The tower is bolted, at ground level, to a strong base which is set in concrete in the ground. Electrical services are connected up through the tower to the turbine. The connection between the base and the tower is hinged in such a way that the tower can be lowered to ground for the necessary routine maintenance on the turbine.
We can provide expert advice for all aspects of the installation, including the selection of an appropriate turbine, and the right tower, as well as providing full on-site survey, if you require it.
Watch the installation!
We recorded one of our installations, to let you see a video of a tower being installed. If you contact our Sales team, then we will send you a DVD of the installation.
Preparation
There are two main elements to consider when installing a wind turbine. The first is the base to hold the tower. The second is the electrical equipment. We will send you a Foundation Pack so that you can carry out the installation of the base plate yourself or we can install this on your behalf. All ducting must be in place to take the electricity cables through to the inverter. Your export meter will be fitted by the Electrical Distribution Company - eg Western Power - who will have given their permission for "Grid Connection".
Tower installation
The following sequence shows the normal process when installing a tower. We make the assumption here that you have chosen the best site, that you are clear of trees and that you have enough ground space to lower the tower flat for maintenance purposes. The pictures below show an installation we completed; click on a small image to have another window pop up to show more detail.
